1. Higher power stability and protection against initial degradation (LID): Conventional P-type cells suffer an initial power loss (light-induced degradation, LID) due to the formation of boron-oxygen complexes. Since our N-type cells are phosphorus-doped, this effect does not occur. This leads to more stable performance from day one.
Source: The fundamental research on this comes, among others, from the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, which has been documenting the superiority of N-type silicon in terms of material quality and tolerance to impurities for years (see, for example, the TOPCon research project, ongoing since 2013). A current test by TÜV Nord (published July 2023) confirms this with specific measurements showing an initial degradation of only 0.26% for N-type TOPCon compared to 1.92% for P-type PERC.
